Let the enchanting scenery of the Wolds capture your heart in two full days of riding through the gently rolling hills and quiet rural villages. This is the landscape that captivated artist David Hockney and inspire his canvases, often produced on a scale which reflects the huge open landscapes.

Stay at outstanding B&Bs with amazing views and ride the magnificent valleys and quiet lanes of Thixendale, Millington, Huggate and Sledmere.
Day one After staying in a magnificent 18th century farmhouse, you begin your ride along miles of green lanes accross farmland with views in every direction. One of the great features of this area is that there are hardly any gates! A dry green valley leads towards Huggate and the Hawold Drovers' Road then descends into Millington Pastures, where a bridleway leads to your next night's accommodation. The ride is mainly off road.
Day two Quiet lanes lead to a wonderful bridleway through the Thixendale valley, with the village nestling at the foot of the slopes, and on towards Wharram Percy, site of a medieval village where excavations have given historians terrific insights into the lives of our ancestors. Quiet roads and green lanes gradually return to Sledmere with its grand house (open to visitors) and tea room.
This route includes 20 miles of riding each day, mostly on grassy tracks and country lanes over gently rolling countryside. You may prefer to take the routes more slowly, and thanks to the variety of tracks and accommodation on offer they can easily be shortened. Alternatively, you and your horse could opt to stay at one location (B&B or self-catering) and do daily petal rides to including a good cross-section of the area. Please call us with your specific requirements.
