Hacking with Hockney

Wednesday April 25th

Explore David Hockney country in the Wolds of East Yorkshire

Routes are ready for riders to discover the rolling landscapes made famous by David Hockney in his colourful paintings. The rides pass through areas immortalised by Hockney such as Thixendale, Sledmere and Warter – here, you can visit the site of his immense ‘Bigger Trees’ canvas.  If you saw his exhibition at the Royal Academy in the spring you’ll recognise many of the scenes as you ride – although you’ll have to accept that our East Riding roads aren’t really purple!

The backdrop to the routes is formed throughout by magnificent undulating scenery of glacier-hewn valleys and chalky uplands, dotted with charming East Riding villages and ancient brick-built farmhouses.

Explore our website for details of 2, 3 and 5 days rides with your own horse or on hired ones, to download free pdfs of the Wolds routes or to find places to stay with your horse and discover this fantastic riding area of long grassy bridleways and deep valleys.
