Easterside Farm, Hawnby Horses grazing at Easterside
Sarah and Alan Wood provide a warm welcome in their farmhouse, with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. The farm is on the western side of the North York Moors National Park and is delightfully far from street-lights, meaning that the night skies are full of stars - a rare sight nowadays across most of the country! The National Park is rightly proud of its 'Dark Skies' status.
Your horses graze in fields surrounding the farmhouse - sometimes sharing them with sheep - and there is excellent riding over a variety of terrain in every direction. For instance you can ride through woodland, stream valleys and lanes to the atmospheric Rievaulx Abbey, stopping in the Abbey cafe for refreshments, or ride across heather moorland - magnificently purple in August. Closer at hand is the picturesque village of Hawnby, with its well-known tea-rooms.
After a good day's riding you can relax in the pretty gardens or the comfortable rooms at Easterside or visit the charming market town of Helmsley for some sightseeing or shopping. There are several pubs and restaurants in the surrounding villages or Helmsley for your evening meals.
