Thornton Lodge, Easingwold, Howardian Hills

A white horses poses against the White Horse of Kilburn Mares and foals grazing at Thornton Lodge.
At Thornton Lodge you can choose to stay in a 4-star B&B adjoining the farmhouse, or bring your own caravan to the well-equipped lakeside site. Either way, Sue and Bill Raper provide excellent facilities for humans and for horses, which enjoy good-quality stables and well-fenced turnout.
Located a few miles north of the pretty market town of Easingwold, Thornton Lodge lies at the edge the Howardian Hills AONB and within riding distance of the North York Moors National Park. There are good circuits straight from the farm using bridleways and quiet lanes - and wherever you go, you'll soon start seeing the dramatic silhouette of the White Horse of Kilburn outlined on the hills to the north.
For shorter rides you can just explore the fields and tracks of the farm itself. As you ride around, you'll see Sue Raper's own mares and youngstock grazing in the fields. A schooling field, dressage arena, show-jumping facilities are available for hire.
Equestrian clinics and competitions - including cross-country - are held here throughout the year, so you may like to time your visit to coincide with one of these.
