Tipperthwaite Barn, Giggleswick, Yorkshire Dales
For a holiday in the south of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Tipperthwaite forms an excellent base. It’s a comfortable and welcoming barn conversion with two bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, and indoor and outdoor sitting areas. Visiting horses have the use of a paddock and loose-box, with a secure tack-room.
The cottage is located on the edge of the Forest of Bowland AONB as well as the national park, and there are spectacular views across to the hills from the cottage. The pretty village of Giggleswick and the adjacent market town of Settle are a short drive (or walk) away, both with good pubs for your evening meals.
Owners Ruth and Mike Mousdale look after their human and equine guests extremely well. Visitors are welcome to use the arena, and Ruth can provide information on good places to ride. For instance, there is pleasant riding along a network of quiet lanes and bridleways straight from the door. A few miles away (accessible via a short drive) is the Settle Loop, and also circuits starting from Clapham, Stainforth, Grassington, and Ingleton. Several of these circuits link in with the Pennine Bridleway, and the routes quickly take you up into fabulous countryside where you are far from the cares of the modern world (though of course with your phone for safety and reassurance!).
The Craven Country Ride is just 8 miles away, an off-road waymarked farm ride across some 600 acres with optional cross-country fences (open April-October and certain days in winter).
Some great routes of different lengths in the area have been mapped as self-guided rides by Ride Yorkshire - you can choose routes at this link. The Tipperthwaite Barn website is here.
