Vicarage Cottage, Wressle, Vale of York
This charming Victorian cottage has been refurbished to a high standard, and offers comfortable accommodation for 2 or 3 adults (double room and single room available), and also a Shed with a Bed! That's like a cross between glamping and Pony Club facilities, with a loo, sink, shower, basic cooking facilities - and of course wifi. There's a hot-tub available for all the accommodation which is perfect for relaxing after a good day's riding.
Vicarage Cottage is in the small agricultural village of Wressle, on the banks of the River Derwent and near the pleasant market town of Howden. With good quality stabling on a working yard next to the cottage, this is a perfect base for a riding holiday in Yorkshire. There are pleasant hacks right from the stable door, using the network of quiet lanes and the Bubwith-Market Weighton rail trail - the local castle is a popular view, for instance! There's more excellent hacking in the Yorkshire Wolds within a half-hour drive, while the North York Moors and Howardian Hills are around an hour away.
Even closer to hand - less than 30 minutes' drive - are the wonderful off-road riding trails of Escrick Park, with its cross-country jumps, and the cross-country course of Manor Farm, at Balkholme. Both have jumps to suit all levels of ability.
The yard is also perfectly placed for a day out with one of the Yorkshire hunts, including the Middleton, Holderness, Sinnington, Bilsdale, Badsworth & Bramham Moor and York & Ainsty South (which merged in 2019).
There's a horse-walker and wash-off facility as well as an outdoor arena and individual turn-out paddocks - and owner Katie Bloom is a qualified equine physiotherapist.
Vicarage Cottage is easily accessible from the motorway network, at 10 minutes' drive from the M62 (junction 36), making it ideal for stopovers on longer journeys north or south.
